For 150

This time I wanted to talk about something mildly VG related. Fan loyalty.

I've been going back and forth with the new depiction of Mandalorians, and the best I can come up with is the LucasArts doesn't actually care about the quality of their work. Sure certain decisions can be written off as intended for children, and just a point in the timeline, but as adults we all know, you don't have to retcon an idea unless you're doing something that isn't neccessary.

Making Mandalorians pacifists isn't neccessary.

The new clone wars depicts the Mandalorians basically as Alderaanians. Pacifists leading a large sector of the Galaxy in neutrality despite a civil war. It's a civil war, one side wants to leave the republic and rule itself, another wants everyone to stay together. There is no neutral side. Deciding not to engage in hostility is something commendable, but only if you are engaging in negotiations (which they are not). Gone is the warrior culture, the agricultural culture and the familial side of Mandalorians an in it's place we get, blonde haired, blue eyed idiots.

The thing that bothers me the most about this is that they already have an established culture that is just as powerful, just as large, and more credible/noticably absent. The Hapes Consortium. Everything they set up about the Mandalorians in the Clone Wars is just left of Hapes.

Female aristocracy: check.
Political infighting: check.
Established jedi relations: Check
Control of a sector of space: Check

I was wrong about one thing earlier though. The thing that bothers me the most is that this whole thing negates quite a few great books, and even some ok books have to be tweaked (Legacy of the Force I'm looking at you).

A friend of mine put it this way, There is no Kal Skirata, if Mandalorians are pacifist. There were no Mandalorians training clone troopers. Jaina never trained with the other Mandalorians to get the skill to beat Jacen - meaning Jacen should still be alive, and crappily evil, except for the part where he killed Boba's mandalorian daughter, because she wouldn't have been Mando, or there to kill. The Mando never saved the Republic from the Vong, etc You get the point.

And that's what bothers me. To the point of not wanting to touch anything Star Wars related. Which is a wierd place to be
